RDM Rotterdam is the ultimate place for innovation in the port; this is where the manufacturing industry of the future takes shape. Where previously famous ships like the steamship Rotterdam were built, the former shipyard of the Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij (RDM) now offers space for companies, education and research. In the centre of the port – but still surprisingly close to the city – they work together here on innovations that contribute to a smart port. This is complemented by a wide range of business and cultural events which makes RDM a dynamic area. A place that you must have seen!
Because companies can use high-tech facilities and find the collaboration with education and research, innovations are realised quickly. Both start-ups, SMEs and world players in the maritime and offshore sector can be found at RDM Rotterdam. More than forty innovative companies, including Ampelmann, Franklin Offshore, RanMarine Technology, Energy Floors and Studio RAP, have found their place at RDM.
The fact that mbh and hbo technical education are established under one roof makes the RDM Rotterdam campus special. The facilities, labs and machines they work with are state-of-the-art. Because students also often participate in real life projects of companies, a future job comes into the picture quickly. RDM is therefore an interesting place for students and invites young people to go for a technical study.
The combination of history and port, industry and innovation, is inspiring for various business and cultural events. From workshops, meetings, trade fairs, conferences to festivals and exhibitions matching the innovative and technical character of RDM. The RDM Congrescentrum’s (Congress Centre) and RDM Onderzeebootloods’ (Submarine Wharf) multifunctional rooms can accommodate 5 to 5,000 visitors.
RDM Rotterdam, together with Merwe-Vierhavens, are part of the Rotterdam Makers District and is formed by the Havenbedrijf Rotterdam, Hogeschool Rotterdam and Techniek College Rotterdam.
