Technasium Award 2025

Students from the Groene Hart Lyceum have won the Verolme Trust Technasium Award 2025 with their innovative ideas for generating sustainable energy from waves.

This project, organized by the Maritime Museum Rotterdam in collaboration with Dutch Wave Power and the Verolme Trust Foundation, encourages young people to actively contribute to the maritime energy transition.
Over the coming years, the need for sustainable energy will continue to grow in order to protect the climate. Although wind and solar energy are very important, they are not always available. This is where supplementation of wave energy becomes extremely valuable.
 
During the exciting final at RDM, Osbit – a tenant – gave a presentation, and the winning teams from the participating ‘technasium’ schools presented their visions for offshore energy solutions. The winners received a certificate from the Maritime Museum and a prestigious place in the museum, where they will be able to present their groundbreaking ideas to the public for a year.
 
Northgo College impressed the jury with their sustainable anchoring system: rubber balls filled with sand as an alternative to concrete, requiring far fewer transport movements. This innovation was awarded a prize by KIVI – the Dutch Royal Institute of Engineers – and the monthly magazine De Ingenieur.

10 Years PortXL

On Wednesday the 26th of March, around 100 alumni, mentors, investors, partners, and team members gathered in Rotterdam to celebrate a special milestone: 10 years of PortXL – the maritime accelerator program that empowers start-ups.

The evening was filled with reflections, forward-looking discussions, and inspiring encounters. Highlights included a keynote by Richard Hardiman (CEO of RanMarine Technology – PortXL 2016) and a lively panel discussion on dealing with resistance in the start-up world, featuring speakers from Allseas, Sveric Docking Technology, MedAssist.online, and STC Rotterdam.
