Maritime Technasium Finals

How can we make offshore wind energy more efficient? That was the question students from the Technasium set out to answer. Last week, students from several secondary schools presented their solutions during the Maritime Technasium Project at the Maritime Museum Rotterdam. In collaboration with the Technasium Foundation, SBM Offshore, and Osbit, the students worked on real-world challenges from the offshore industry.

During the finals, the teams presented their research and demonstrated their prototypes in the basin of the RDM Innovation Campus at RDM Rotterdam. The jury awarded two teams the Verolme Trust Technasium Award.

The Maritime Museum organizes this educational project each year to encourage students to think about sustainable solutions for the future of the maritime sector. This happens in collaboration with partners from industry and with the support of the Verolme Trust Foundation, a long‑standing ally in promoting forward‑thinking technical education. RDM Rotterdam is proud to support the innovators of tomorrow and to contribute to this project.

Opening Datalab

Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences now has not one but two datalabs for practice‑based research: the AI SusTech Datalab (artificial intelligence, sustainability and technology) is officially open!

This datalab focuses on the development and application of digital twins, a technology that opens up new possibilities for analysis, simulation and decision‑making within research projects.

## A chain of datalabs
Hanneke Reuling (Executive Board) is excited about the new opportunities the datalab brings:
“We are proud of the growing chain of datalabs that is taking shape across the entire university. These labs are increasingly collaborating with one another.

The focus of this lab lies primarily on research aligned with the three research clusters of the CoE HRTech: the sustainable transformation of industry, smart logistics and maritime innovation, and the development of a sustainable urban delta. And of course, just like the other labs, they actively seek connections with education.”

## Looking for collaboration
The datalab is deliberately located on the business side of RDM, not on the education side. Director Marleen Goumans explains why:
“There is significant added value for us in being situated among companies. We already collaborate extensively with industry, but this location allows us to strengthen those partnerships even further. Virtually, everything is connected, but sometimes you also need a physical gateway and that’s what we have here.”

10 years Techniek College Rotterdam

Techniek College Rotterdam is celebrating its 10th anniversary! What once began as a major challenge, bringing together two educational cultures into one technical college, has grown into a strong and solid foundation. For ten years now, “educating together, with courage and with care” has been at the heart of what Techniek College Rotterdam stands for.

Director Marc Meijer: “in the past 10 years, we have worked hard to become who we are today. A serious discussion partner at many tables across the greater Rotterdam region. We are ready for the next step in educating together with our partners, and we want to make even better use of our position as the largest technical educator in the Netherlands.”
