Inaugural lecture

RDM Rotterdam
What role does the port play in a world that is changing ever more rapidly? This was one of the questions addressed during Thierry Verduijn’s inaugural lecture. Last Monday, he took a packed auditorium at the Floating Pavilion through the dynamics of the port ecosystem, demonstrating how innovation, collaboration, and knowledge development contribute to a future-proof port.

Marleen Goumans, interim Director of CoE HRTech, opened the afternoon with words of appreciation for Thierry and his extensive network within the port and logistics sector. “After a long run-up, the moment has arrived to officially reflect on your professorship and the results already achieved,” Goumans said.

In his lecture, Thierry showed that the impact of the Port of Rotterdam extends far beyond the region itself. Developments in sustainability, digitalisation and geopolitical resilience affect companies, logistics chains and international trade flows. Alongside technological innovation, there is therefore also a need for new ways of working together.
